Lucid Motors has announced a delay for its highly anticipated affordable electric vehicle, the Cosmos. Originally expected sooner, the Cosmos is now slated for release in the second half of 2027. CEO Silvio Napoli emphasized that the company is committed to getting the EV right, ensuring it meets the high standards customers expect from the brand.
In the meantime, Lucid is focusing on its nearer-term robotaxi project, a collaboration with Uber and Nuro. This partnership aims to leverage Lucid's EV technology in autonomous ride-hailing services, potentially providing a new revenue stream while the Cosmos development continues.
The delay reflects the broader challenges in the EV market, including supply chain issues and the need for technological refinement. For Lucid, this strategic pivot underscores a focus on long-term quality over short-term gains.
