Johor Police Bust Bitcoin Mining Ring Stealing Electricity Worth $25,000 Monthly

In a targeted operation codenamed Ops Letrik, the Johor police force successfully dismantled a Bitcoin mining syndicate that had been illegally siphoning electricity from the national grid. The syndicate operated 71 mining rigs across four separate premises, stealing power from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to fuel their cryptocurrency mining activities. Authorities estimate the group was generating up to RM100,000 (approximately $25,000) in monthly revenue through this illicit operation. The crackdown highlights ongoing challenges in regulating energy-intensive crypto mining in the region.
